Mac Accessories

As always, I have a different slant. I found the SM-58 to be an ok PA mike
but a poor recording mike. It's companion mike, the Shure SM57 is the most
popular mike to place in front of a guitar amp. The Electro-voice ND
series are much better and cheaper dynamic mikes. The Shure condensor
mikes like the BG 3.1,PG 81, SM81 are much cleaner vocal mikes. AKG mikes
are quirky and vary from tiny to bassy depending on the series.AKG doesn't
make professional mikes below the $500 I like the Marshall MXL series,
they're cheap and varied sounding Russian knock-offs of the classic AKG
and Neuman mikes of the 1950s and 1960s and are made by Oktava of Russia.
The Neuman 103, 104 are the most affordable recording quality condensors
at the professional price level of $1000+. Many people love the affordable
Audio-Technica mikes. The Griffin adapter sounds not much better than
talking in a dixie cup with a string. The Marshall MXL ibooster sounds
like a better option.
Getting back to the topic. I use a Digitech RP-50 digital effects box for
my guitar and a Digitech BP-50 effects box for my Fender Squier P-Bass. I
use monster cables from my Mac to my cheapy Fender DSP 150 solidstate Amp.
I can go direct to my Steinberger, Squier Telecaster, Squier Stratocaster
and Sigma Acousic guitars, but I like the effects and warmth of going
through an amp. If you want Marshall crunch or Fender clean, there's no
substitute. Personally, I find the effects filters in and for garageband
lacking compared to the VST filters for other recording software and much
poorer in quality to the Digitech effects.
