          Thanks for the info, I found a pioneer on sale so I'll give it a
shot nothing ventured nothing gained, I did find a site Btech that has a lot
of drives cheap, but refurbished, I got mine from OWC.
                  But now I have another problem concerning My Book external
drive, disconnecting it from the laptop I seem to have "hidden " all the
files. The drive still reports the infomation is there but it doesn't show
up. I'm  using PhotoRec' right now to try and recover the info, has anyone
used it before . Better yet anyone have some ideas?

You might be able to swap the internal burner for another, but it
isn't a sure thing.  I've tried that twice - neither worked.  If I
were you, I'd just watch for a sale (in TODAY'S paper) on a new
external drive.  Happy shopping!
