Super Computing 2010 Cluster Challenge

Helix II

In the past LSU had a computational cluster known as Super Helix. The nodes in this cluster had the following attributes:

As a first step towards the Cluster Challenge, we are creating Helix II -- a cluster with 5 nodes (head node and 4 compute nodes) using old nodes from the original Super Helix II.

Jason and I took the liberty of doing some of the initial physical work. We have removed the Myrinet cards (no switch readily available). We have mounted the 5 nodes in an 11U rack that I happen to have (U2-11). In the bottom U, we have installed a manual KVM, an ethernet switch and a network enabled PDU. The head node has a second ethernet interface (via a card in a slot). All the cabling has been done to interconnect everything. Below are some pictures of the assembly. The head node currenlty has CentOS 5.3 installed.
